South Kensington Underground Development Action Group

2003 proposal

Superimposed drawing of the development

South Kensington under threat

Do we want an 11 storey glass and steel tower with 260,000sq.ft of office space and a 37,000 sq.ft shopping complex in the heart of South Kensington?

We say No!

That’s why, after London Transport, Stanhope and Hutchison Whampoa filed plans for this development in the Summer of 2003, a group of community residents and affected parties formed the South Kensington Underground Development (SKUD) Action Group.

SKUD’s aim is for reasoned development of the South Kensington Tube Station site. The development should be sympathetic with Tube users, area visitors (particularly museum visitors) and local residents.

The development should not be a “bonanza” for the developers, built upon the backs of local residents in terms of bulk, density, inappropriate uses for the neighborhood, loss of light, incremental traffic and parking pressure.
